BISS Bakeries Uganda, in collaboration with CCA(Child Care Africa), organized a very successful bakery training in Namalu town, Nakapiripirit district in Karamoja region of Uganda. The training started on the 5th February 2024 and ended on the 29th of march 2024. It had 6 participants for 2 bakeries, one in Namalu and the other in Katakwi.
BISS Bakeries reaches Karamoja!
Thanks to a great collaboration, both financial and operational, with Child Care Africa Foundation CCA , BISS Bakeries has been able to reach the furthest corners of Uganda: Kaabong, Amudat and Namalu in Karamoja Region.
Karamoja, often described as the poorest region of Uganda, makes you think you have entered a different country. The vegetation and culture are one on its own. Originally only occupied by nomadic tribes, but now with a great number of settlements.
Child Care Africa Foundation CCA sponsors children in the region to go to school, as the percentage of school going children in Uganda is still the lowest in this region. But as they say handing a fish feeds only for a day. That’s why we also initiated the BISS Bakery program together in Karamoja. So far, we have opened four branches together. One in Kaabong, one in Amudat, one in Namalu and one in neighboring district Katakwi.
Currently, we finished a training in Namalu. We trained 5 women and one man. Two families who have been working together already in baking. A great foundation to build on, credits to CCA for finding these participants. Through the BISS program, their bakery will get an upgrade in equipment and baking and business knowledge. They will be given the equipment and ingredients in micro-credit form. The repayment coming back from the program will go back to support CCA in her activities of educating children. Among those, we’ll definitely find some future bakers!
