THE LIFE OF KIMULI MEDI HAS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER.

I am Nagadia Rahma from Mityana District, the mother of Kimuli Medi. Kimuli was born with spina bifida, a condition that required an immediate surgery at birth. However, after the surgery, his lower limbs failed to coordinate with his nerves so he could not support himself, he even could not feed himself or hold something with his hands. Even when we fed him, it was always with very soft food that he could easily just swallow without chewing. So as he grew up, because of the shame I had developed, I feared to bring him to play with his friends in the neighborhood and this traumatized him at that early age. He cried a lot and I felt really sorry that I could not help in as much as I was his biological mother. However, thanks to Namutamba Rehabilitation center that helped to connect me with BISS Bakeries. I was recruited and trained in baking and smart business management. During the training my son was recieving physiotherapy from katalemwa Cheshire homes and also getting exposed to other children, making him learn to associate and start to live a normal life. When we went back after the training period, my son no longer wanted to be left in the house alone. He begun to make friends in the neighborhood and at the bakery. He is now getting physically strong and able to crawl to his friends and even feed himself. I can also do my daily baking routine without fear that the child is alone. I worked with my husband for a while until he decided to leave and go in search of greener pastures in the Big city. I was left with only my brother, who helps me with hawking the products, his dear wife who has been helping me with baking and another hawker who also gets a commission after sales

 Life has totally changed for the past 1year, our social life in the community has improved and even the social welfare of our home has totally changed. I would really love to thank the management of Namutamba Rehabilitation centre in Mityana for giving me the opportunity to join the program and for BISS Bakeries for allowing me to participate in the training and give me the start-up kit. Thanks also to the BISS team for never giving up on me and continuing to support me in times when I get challenges. I’m now a proud mother of Medi and a proud owner of a BISS Bakery in Mityana town. And also an employer
