Oliver, Tororo Town, East Uganda
In 2016, BISS explored the new oven-project under BISS with Oliver. An only child who only has her mother, went through a bakery course at Bake for Life College Tororo, where after she expressed interest in the BISS program. She started working from our training location, but after one year she got a rental in Tororo town and started working on her own. We started with her a bakery with a small tea-shop attached. When the Tororo market reorganized, she was forced to relocate. After working in an outskirt of Tororo for some time, she managed to buy herself a plot of land and build a house and a bakery. At her home, one will find new developments all the time. From connecting it to the national water, to installing solar, to introducing different animals. She paid successfully 2 loans with BISS and is now on a third one, that she got to expand her business in Tororo town.
Quote Oliver: “I am a Pioneer Baker of the Biss project. Before joining Biss bakeries, I was a shop attendant. I joined Biss Bakeries as a pioneer project through the Bake for Life College Tororo. I was given a full BISS bakery kit in form of startup capital in 2016 and together with my husband, who is also a baker, I am able to make at least UGX 20,000 (about €5) daily as profit. Throughout this period, I have earned the Name “Maama Mandazi”. I have also been able to buy land in Tororo District where I own a home and a bakery. I am also able to raise school fees for my children and my livelihood has improved. Biss project has enabled me get into various projects like Piggery, Poultry, Farming and on the side, I own a Teashop in Tororo town all from Biss Project’s savings. Thanks to the Biss project for making me a home owner. All I can say is that I started with Nothing but now all I have is from the Biss Project and I am hoping for greater achievements ahead.”
